So, something you may or may not know about me is that I have the palate of a Toddler. Cheeseburgers? I’ll have the them plain. Does it have onions? Yeah, I’m not going to eat that. Spicy? Forget about it. I’m a one trick pony when it comes to restaurants and their menus, I find the one thing I like and order it visit after visit and never deviate from that particular item on the menu. I’m just not adventurous when it comes to food. The most adventurous I have ever gotten with food was when I was pregnant and wanted to eat ALL THE THINGS. Then, I popped those babies out and I went right back to my chicken nugget loving little heart.
I’ve basically been this way my whole life. My parents spoiled me rotten and catered to my plain palate. BBQ Chicken for dinner? No problem, my Dad always left me a few pieces with no sauce. As I got older, I learned how to cook the things I liked, and if a recipe called for things I didn’t like I either left it out or didn’t even attempt to try the recipe. I never thought it to be a problem until we hit the dinner ruts of eating the same things every week and I started to despise the daunting task of meal planning. I lost my cooking mojo and we hit the rut of eating out constantly just because I just didn’t know what to cook anymore. Nothing was satisfying. Then, I was introduced to Hello Fresh.
Thank you Hello Fresh for sponsoring this post. All thoughts and opinions expressed here are 100% my own.
I’ve seen these “meal plan” companies before. I thought they were all one in the same, and again, I never dared tried them because they may make me eat an onion. Yuck. When Hello Fresh expressed interest in me reviewing their box for the week, we were day 3 on the Taco train and I jumped at the chance even if it did involve me eating onion. I simply chose my 3 meals for the week out of their Classic Box options and days later all the ingredients needed to make those meals were happily delivered to my door step.
First, let me just say that grocery shopping that week was a breeze since my meats, veggies, and spices were all taken care of for dinner by Hello Fresh. All the ingredients were super fresh and that is one of my favorite things about Hello Fresh. They provide you with high-quality ingredients from local purveyors. The Chicken I received was raised with no antibiotics or hormones which I’m not sure I could say the same for my usual store bought Chicken. Not only was I cooking great tasting meals for my family, but I was also confident in the quality of the meats and vegetables I was feeding them.
My meals called for ingredients I have never worked with before, but the instructions made me feel like a pro. There were also ingredients I was quite positive I wasn’t going to eat, but I challenged myself to eat everything the menu called for, and y’all, my palate has been deprived all these years! Everything was amazing! My burger even had caramelized onions and I still ate every last crumb on my plate. The best part, I cooked all these restaurant quality meals in about 30 minutes which is way shorter than any of my usual meals. I saved time, we all cleaned our plates, and our bellies were happy.
Even though I had the opportunity to review these recipes for Hello Fresh, we will continue to receive Hello Fresh meals not only because we thoroughly enjoyed the menu, but it is also cost effective for our family, not to mention, their plans are flexible. I can skip meal deliveries anytime I want, no problem.
Thank you Hello Fresh for taking the headache out of meal planning, making me feel like a rockstar chef in the kitchen, and providing my family with healthy but amazing tasting dinner options.
